    About Second City Communications

Second City Communications does more than 300 engagements a year for corporate clients – that’s nearly one a day, including training workshops, corporate entertainment, and custom video or live events. In any given year, over 250 writers, actors, directors, stage managers, musical directors, instructors, program designers, editors and production crew will work on corporate assignments for Second City Communications.

The Second City has been the training ground for a host of famous alumni including John Belushi, Mike Myers, Gilda Radner, John Candy, Catherine O Hara, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, and countless stars of stage and screen. Our legendary comedy theatre company has resident stages in Chicago, Toronto, Detroit, and Las Vegas — entertaining more than 1,000,000 guests each year.

The Second City is the largest training center for improvisation and acting in North America with 14,000 students a year at schools in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Detroit, NewYork and Toronto. Our three International Touring Companies travel around the country and world including Austria, The Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Iraq.

Since things are only funny when they’re true, it’s no wonder there’s so little laughter in the workplace. (Ouch.) We know that a little humor can go a long way in creating a transparent, open culture where people are truly engaged in their work. We also know that laughter probably isn’t a corporate priority unless you work for us. But, done right, a little funny business can improve your business and your corporate culture.

Improvisation is the art of creating something out of nothing, and given the importance of creating new ideas, relationships and products, we’d say businesspeople could become better improvisers. Business requires agility and rewards flexibility, yet most companies are policy bound and risk averse. As the best improvisers in the world, we develop learning programs that help clients create, innovate and adapt on the fly when “the best laid plans” go awry.

Our most popular offering, custom shows are clean, one act revues (approx. 50-60 minutes) prepared and customized specifically for your company. After a briefing with you, our client, our writers craft two to three original scenes based on the work and day-to-day life of your company and business. Additionally, the revue includes approximately fifteen minutes of “best of” Second City sketches and twenty minutes of improvisation, all carefully chosen to fit your audience and business. As a client, you will have full involvement with and approval of all sketches to ensure the material is suitable for your organization, while still maintaining the hilarity for which Second City is known.

    “Best of” Show

This 50-minute revue is similar to the custom show, but instead focuses on the top material from our forty-five years of theatrical history. The revue includes sketches, improvisation based off of your audience’s suggestions, and hilarious songs.

    Improv Show

Some of our best actors come together for the 30-minute improvisation show, where they take suggestions from your audience to create an original set that is entirely unique and new. Because suggestions come from the audience, this show tends to form around concepts relevant to your business.
